Mayra Ramirez, 28, received a double-lung transplant after COVID-19 caused irreversible damage to her lungs.

¿Qué Pasa, Midwest?, a podcast from WNIN in Evansville, Indiana, recently featured an interview initially conducted by Side Effects Public Media reporter Christine Herman.

Herman previously told the story of Mayra Ramirez, who was the first U.S. COVID-19 patient to undergo a double-lung transplant. Ramirez, who was 28 when she contracted the virus, was in the ICU on life support before the procedure.

This season of ¿Qué Pasa, Midwest? is exploring how the Latinx community is recovering from the COVID pandemic. It discusses and shares Herman's most recent conversation with Ramirez in an episode that aired April 22. You can listen to it here.
